Make Your Own Window Clings

Ready to order window clings? Here are some tips to help you choose the right options:

Size
This refers to the actual size of the window cling and not the glass or surface area. If you need a full-sized static film, measure the width and height of the glass window excluding the window frame. That will be the size of your window cling.
Material
Choose the white static cling if you want your artwork to appear vibrant. If you want the graphic to look like it’s printed on the glass, choose the clear static cling.
White Ink
Adding white ink layers will give parts of your artwork a solid color. This helps make text and graphics easier to see.

This option is available only with clear static cling and can be customized with the following options:

  • All Transparent - No white layer will be added. Everything will be see-through. This is best suited for artwork with large text size and graphics.
  • Only background prints clear - Only the text and image will have a white ink layer underneath, while the background remains see-through.
  • White areas on file print clear - All the images, text, and background in white will be see-through. Other design elements will retain their respective solid colors.
  • Follow File Transparency Settings - This option is for artwork that already has the right transparency and white layers. We will print your design as indicated. If you choose this option, we encourage you to select our free proof service during checkout to review your file for errors.

Spread Your Message from Inside or Outside the Window

Wondering where to install your window clings? Application location refers to how the graphics will be applied and seen. Here are two options:

  • In front of window - The non-printed side adheres to the surface. This option makes the artwork easier to see from a distance and works best for tinted windows.
  • Behind Window - The print is on the cling side, which sticks to the glass. This protects the static clings from outside elements but is not best for tinted windows.

4 Steps to Installing Window Clings

Static clings do not require the use of adhesives, which means you can remove them and place them wherever your customers can easily spot them.

Make your window clings last long by installing them correctly. Here's how to do it:

1
Clean your window.
Use a glass cleaner or equal parts of vinegar and water to remove dirt from the glass. Use a lint-free microfiber cloth to remove residue and dry the glass.
2
Wet the surface.
Large window clings adhere best to wet surfaces. Spray the area with a mixture of liquid soap and water.
3
Apply the window cling.
Peel off the backing paper from the window cling and smooth it over your window.
4
Remove air bubbles.
Use a squeegee to press on the decal against the glass and get rid of air bubbles.

“I have been ordering from UPrinting for over 10years. The quality used to be superb. They spend a tremendous amount of time following up and fixing problems that just are related to either material quality or something else. They do try to fix it however you’ll miss deadlines and you will be called back by the nicest people in customer service and alof of emails. Hmmm. Defeats the point of ordering and getting it done on time. The problem I have with the clings is that after a short amount of time they do not hold up well for storage which is the entire point of a cling sign. I have older ones I got from UPrinting and they are fine. The new ones - not so much. So I would not recommend this product based on reusable and the cost. Sorry but my customers are not satisfied as I use UPrinting a lot.”

“I bought a window clinging a few weeks ago and had the worst customer service of all businesses I have worked with! I had placed my order and was prompted to receive the proof of the window cling within 6-12 hours. Note that I had placed this order the night before Labor day (Sunday night), so I was was expecting the proof to be sent around Tuesday. I waited through Tuesday and Wednesday and did not receive anything. I contacted customer service and was told that I was supposed to be contacted early on about my specifications and requests I had made following the order, but was not contacted for some unspecified reason. Then to make it up, I was told that my order would be on priority so I was okay with the service provided. I, again, had to wait more than 6-12 hours to receive my proof. I had to contact customer service again and they sent me the proof upon my request. It is not my responsibility to make sure their service is delivered to me without dilemmas. Once I received my window clinging a few days later, it wasn't what I had expected. My confusion came when I was placing the order to be clear static cling, which was not what I had wanted; I wanted the background to be pure white. I informed customer service of this confusion due to their poor specifications on opaque and clear material and how the details for the white ink portion are confusing. Details say that white ink is there to enhance features such as images texts etc. Thinking that this was the case, I thought they would be able to make my background white (as shown on the proof) but when I talked to customer service, I was told that it is only for white text and that the white background on the proof was meant to be clear. Now if you are thinking that all of this is confusing, I am too. I asked if I could simply send the clinging back and get a clinging with a white background in return and was told they could not do anything about it because of the options I had already placed. I have worked with many other professional services and this is never the outcome. Overall, don't waste your money on poor service. It is sad to see that inconsiderate and irresponsible services like this still exists.”

“Why is Google plastering this ad all over the place with a negative review that is more convincing the other ,probably, BOGUS reviews? Please!!!! Do Not SMEAR AD's all over the place that have convincingly poor reputation from even 1 former customer!”

“DO NOT ORDER THESE CLINGS! If you are looking for them to be placed on the inside of a window they do NOT stick. I contacted the company and they assured me they would stick from inside and that is not true. Only stick on outside of window.”

Q:
Can you print 5-color CMYKW on transparent/clear static cling so the graphic is visible from *both* sides (as it it were semi-opaque stained glass but containing white ink in addition to full color). We would *not* want one side as white/overprint.
Asked 11 days ago by Annie
A:

We can print on a clear static cling with the five colors (including white). Normally, we would put a white overlay but if you choose not to, we can also do that. We suggest that on the White Ink option, please select "Make Everything Transparent".  We also suggest you ask for a free proof first so you can see on a PDF how it will print and speak to a file specialist to make sure we are following your instructions.

Q:
Can I get a circular design, where the design is frosted (and somewhat transparent) and the rest is transparent?
Asked 5 months ago by Victoria F.
A:

Definitely, You need to go to our Frosted Vinyl Lettering product. You will need to order a square or rectangular size to fit your circular desgn or logo and this will be cut out on the frosted material.

Q:
They are going on a mirror, and the background is already colored and not clear. Should I request transparent?
Asked 6 months ago by Kevin C.
A:

If you want the background of the mirror to be the same background as the cling, then you need to order transparent. The other option is to order the White Static Cling, meaning we will print on a white material so it stands out from the background. There is a diagram on the product page to show the four various options of your artwork and how it can stand out. This is for the White Ink options. Please check it out to see how your artwork should be treated best.

Q:
Can you write on these with a marker?
Asked 6 months ago by Abby
A:

Yes, you may. However, depending on the marker you use, it will be difficult to erase. Please check our Dry Erase Adhesive Vinyl as this could be a viable option.

Q:
I’m opening a new store and need these as a marketing to cover the glass & doors advertising coming soon. I have to place them on the outside , will they be easily removed after? Or can someone just peel them off ?
Asked 7 months ago by cashiema g.
A:

They do not use adhesive and use static cling to stick to the surface. If you wish to remove them properly and reuse them, you would need to use a little water and a squeegee so they wont be ripped. If you do intend to reuse them, it would be best to keep the backing paper they are shipped with so they may be stored properly.
