“This was our first experience with UPrinting.com and we are very satisfied. Ordering was easy. Your template guides made our production perfect for producing the final printed product (which needed folds in the three panel flyer). Your responsiveness to our "learning curve" questions were fast and very helpful. The production turnaround exceeded our expections. The final price was lower than that of other vendors. Delivery of the finished product was right on time. We will be using a lot more in the future.”

Q:
There are so many choices of paper out there. What quality of paper do you suggest for a trifold brochure full-bleed design?
Asked a year ago by Junell H.
A:

Based on our experience, the type of paper you select depends on how you see your end users treat the brochures or what purpose you have for them. There are basically just two qualities that impact this - coating and paper weight.

Technically we only offer three types of coating on the paper - matte, gloss and uncoated. This is mainly for the asthetic side of your need in terms of how smooth or shiny the surface of the paper is (glossy) or if you want a more textured or dull finish (matte).  The design or artwork are sometimes enhanced by the type of coating you select as gloss or matte can project different moods or themes. If you need to write on the brochures, the recommendation would be to use uncoated paper which comes with no gloss or matte finish.

The other consideration is the weight of the paper or thickness. If you are only using the brochure for single use (giving it out and expecting the user to look at it and dispose of it shortly after), you would probably need to use a lightweight and less costly 70 lb paper. If it has a full bleed and trifolded, it is likely that this may be placed on a rack or on display for people to pick up and read. Users need to keep it for reference so it's best to use the 100 lb paper which is fairly sturdy and the standard for most customers. If you need the brochure to be very sturdy and last a longer time, you have the option for the heavier stocks like the 10 pt or 14 pt cover stocks. The 14 pt is actually the same stocks we use for post cards and business cards so you can select this if you expect the user to keep the brochure as reference and will be handling and unfolding it repeatedly.
