Custom Labels call attention to your business

What makes a label fun and effective? What it boils down to for most people is the customization of the design. With custom label printing, you can create labels that will drive a positive impression and instant brand recognition. Labels easily promote your business as part of your product packaging, whether used for mailing as custom address labels or as custom wine labels. They also play an important role in event organizers that need to print personalized labels for weddings and other events.

What’s the Difference Between Labels and Stickers?

Labels and stickers are often used interchangeably to refer to a piece of sticky graphic. Although both share some qualities (e.g., materials, adhesives, shapes, etc.), stickers and labels differ on how they are used:

Labels

Labels are often used for brand identification and for providing information. They can be used on product packaging and shipping boxes but can also be used for personal items. Label size is usually determined by the surface where they will be used. For example, a 3” x 3” round label could go on a mason jar or on a water bottle.

Stickers

Stickers are typically printed to promote a brand or cause. In offline marketing, stickers serve as a seal of approval or thumbs up from customers when used. Stickers can be inserted in packages, handed out to customers, and given as a freebie with every purchase.

When to Use Singles and Roll Labels

At UPrinting, you can print singles (formerly known as cut-to-size) or roll labels. Singles are individually cut in your chosen shape and are suitable for labeling specialty products and gifts. Our wide size range lets you print labels as small as 1.5” x 2.5” to as big as 8.5” x 11”. You can print these on two types of materials:

Roll Label Materials

Roll labels are the more practical choice for those who need to label products in bulk manually or using a dispenser. They’re easier to peel but also fit in most label dispensers for fast and easy application. You can adjust the label’s design according to our custom sizes and die-cutting options.

Both singles and roll materials come in a matte, gloss, or high-gloss finish. Matte offers a rustic and organic look, while gloss and high-gloss surfaces let the colors pop. Both matte and gloss are applied on labels found on products displayed indoors.

Are All the Labels Writable?

Need to add notes and other information to your labels? Here is a list of materials that you can write on.

  • 70 lb. label matte can be written on with a permanent marker. This material is ideal for adding best-by dates by hand.
  • 70 lb. label high-gloss UV has an extra smooth surface that is only writable with a permanent marker only. We recommend letting the ink dry completely before handling to avoid smudges.
  • Textured estate?labels (white vellum, white laid, and cream laid) are writable when uncoated. Use both pens and permanent markers to personalize your labels.
  • 4 mil. white vinyl high-gloss UV has a shiny surface that allows only permanent markers for writing. Make sure to have ample drying time before use.

How to Peel Off Labels

Labels come with a protective backing that prevents the adhesive from losing its stickiness. Sometimes, peeling off labels can create unsightly creases on the product. Here are some tips on how you can peel and apply labels:

Singles Labels

These labels have two panels that you need to bend and peel to reveal the adhesive. Here’s a short video demonstrating the correct way of removing the backing from singles labels:

Kiss-Cut Labels

Kiss-cut labels have a large backing that is not trimmed to the shape of the label. To remove the labels, gently lift one side and slowly pull the rest to avoid creasing.

Sheet Labels

These labels come with one large backing. Carefully separate the labels from the backing with your finger. Look for the outline on the backing to see where you can lift off the label.

Roll Labels

The easiest to peel off, roll labels can be peeled off by just lifting a corner from the backing. Slowly pull the label away from the backing. If you need to, move to another corner and peel to prevent wrinkling.

Great printing service and quality

“The quality of printing is usually great. I have only had one issue over the past years of doing business, and Uprinting quickly offered to make it right. My only complaint is the cost of shipping, which is double what it should be for small items such as brochures and small labels. Since shipping is part of my daily business, I know that a 2day priority USPS envelope is just under $9, yet I am charged $19.”

Another Great Experience

“I received custom, round stickers within a week, just as promised. They seem to be of good quality, perfectly placed on the circle (and I denied the proof b/c I needed them faster). They were well-packed in a little box (ordered 200) and arrived on schedule. This is my 3rd order (wedding save the dates and a giant, 3' round wall sticker) - I'll keep ordering!”

Q:
Can I have you make a roll of stickers in a specific layout I create? For self-published books that need an ISBN sticker with a bar code and publisher on it?
Asked a year ago by Scott
A:

If each label is identical, we can do it. You would just need to submit your layout, in vector format preferably and it can be printed as a regular job. Just select the size and material you need on the Configure and Price area for roll stickers and upload your file after. You would need to make sure that when we send you the proof, you check if the barcode can be scanned properly before we send to print because we cannot be responsible for any issues down the line with regards to the barcode not being readable. If each roll sticker will be unique meaning each ISBN sticker is different, we wont be able to do it. We can print a single unique barcode with sequential numbering but this will need to be coordinated through our Custom Department so it would be better to call it in.

Q:
Can you write on the labels?
Asked a year ago by Pamela
A:

Hi there!

Thank you so much for the question. I would be more than glad to answer this inquiry.

Although we offer paper material for our stickers, most of them don't have the best writability properties due to the coating or lamination. The best sticker types we can offer are the textured materials for roll labels. As long as we don't add any lamination to these, they can be written on. You may click the link below for reference.

Q:
I like the "Sweet honey" label you have as the default image, but then that shape doesn't seem to be one of the selections you can actually order.
Asked a year ago by Joshua
A:

Hi, Joshua!

Thank you so much for the question. I understand that you wanted the same shape of the sticker that says "Sweet Honey" on the website. I would be more than happy to answer your inquiry! To get started, kindly make sure that you are able to choose the correct specifications. In order to get that shape, kindly make sure to choose custom shape. Then provide an artwork with a guideline of the shape for your cut-to-size stickers.

I hope this helps!

Q:
Does the adhesive on this label effectively stick to frozen items?
Asked a year ago by Sully
A:
Hi Sully,

Thank you for your question. All of our labels have permanent adhesive though it's recommended to be applied on a dry surface to ensure the label sticks properly. You may consider our vinyl labels as these are the most durable and waterproof labels.
