Make Your Own Window Clings

Ready to order window clings? Here are some tips to help you choose the right options:

Size
This refers to the actual size of the window cling and not the glass or surface area. If you need a full-sized static film, measure the width and height of the glass window excluding the window frame. That will be the size of your window cling.
Material
Choose the white static cling if you want your artwork to appear vibrant. If you want the graphic to look like it’s printed on the glass, choose the clear static cling.
White Ink
Adding white ink layers will give parts of your artwork a solid color. This helps make text and graphics easier to see.

This option is available only with clear static cling and can be customized with the following options:

  • All Transparent - No white layer will be added. Everything will be see-through. This is best suited for artwork with large text size and graphics.
  • Only background prints clear - Only the text and image will have a white ink layer underneath, while the background remains see-through.
  • White areas on file print clear - All the images, text, and background in white will be see-through. Other design elements will retain their respective solid colors.
  • Follow File Transparency Settings - This option is for artwork that already has the right transparency and white layers. We will print your design as indicated. If you choose this option, we encourage you to select our free proof service during checkout to review your file for errors.

Spread Your Message from Inside or Outside the Window

Wondering where to install your window clings? Application location refers to how the graphics will be applied and seen. Here are two options:

  • In front of window - The non-printed side adheres to the surface. This option makes the artwork easier to see from a distance and works best for tinted windows.
  • Behind Window - The print is on the cling side, which sticks to the glass. This protects the static clings from outside elements but is not best for tinted windows.

4 Steps to Installing Window Clings

Static clings do not require the use of adhesives, which means you can remove them and place them wherever your customers can easily spot them.

Make your window clings last long by installing them correctly. Here's how to do it:

1
Clean your window.
Use a glass cleaner or equal parts of vinegar and water to remove dirt from the glass. Use a lint-free microfiber cloth to remove residue and dry the glass.
2
Wet the surface.
Large window clings adhere best to wet surfaces. Spray the area with a mixture of liquid soap and water.
3
Apply the window cling.
Peel off the backing paper from the window cling and smooth it over your window.
4
Remove air bubbles.
Use a squeegee to press on the decal against the glass and get rid of air bubbles.

I bought a...

“I bought a window clinging a few weeks ago and had the worst customer service of all businesses I have worked with! I had placed my order and was prompted to receive the proof of the window cling within 6-12 hours. Note that I had placed this order the night before Labor day (Sunday night), so I was was expecting the proof to be sent around Tuesday. I waited through Tuesday and Wednesday and did not receive anything. I contacted customer service and was told that I was supposed to be contacted early on about my specifications and requests I had made following the order, but was not contacted for some unspecified reason. Then to make it up, I was told that my order would be on priority so I was okay with the service provided. I, again, had to wait more than 6-12 hours to receive my proof. I had to contact customer service again and they sent me the proof upon my request. It is not my responsibility to make sure their service is delivered to me without dilemmas. Once I received my window clinging a few days later, it wasn't what I had expected. My confusion came when I was placing the order to be clear static cling, which was not what I had wanted; I wanted the background to be pure white. I informed customer service of this confusion due to their poor specifications on opaque and clear material and how the details for the white ink portion are confusing. Details say that white ink is there to enhance features such as images texts etc. Thinking that this was the case, I thought they would be able to make my background white (as shown on the proof) but when I talked to customer service, I was told that it is only for white text and that the white background on the proof was meant to be clear. Now if you are thinking that all of this is confusing, I am too. I asked if I could simply send the clinging back and get a clinging with a white background in return and was told they could not do anything about it because of the options I had already placed. I have worked with many other professional services and this is never the outcome. Overall, don't waste your money on poor service. It is sad to see that inconsiderate and irresponsible services like this still exists.”

“DO NOT ORDER THESE CLINGS! If you are looking for them to be placed on the inside of a window they do NOT stick. I contacted the company and they assured me they would stick from inside and that is not true. Only stick on outside of window.”

“We received our static clings and were very displeased. The print quality is very bad, and not suitable to sell to customers. I have a picture attached for you to see. It is blurry and appears to be as though it is pixelated, even though it was printed from a vector file. We would like a refund for the product and would be happy to return them to you if that is necessary.”

Q:
Hello, would it be possible to send in what I want on these and have you design them?
Asked a year ago by Mackenzie C.
A:

Yes, we do have a design service that can help you put together your artwork. However, we would have certain requirements for you to submit like high resolution images and logos (we do not design logos), detailed instructions of what you want to accomplish and samples of layouts and designs we can use for inspiration for the final design. Depending on the size and complexity of your project, we can give you a quote. Please give us a call and speak to our Design Team representative to set this up.

You can also use our Online Design Tool which is very easy to use and can accomodate your custom images or design elements. It also has some templates you can choose from or stock images that can be searched for specific themes or topics.

Q:
Would these work on a smooth stone/granite wall?
Asked a year ago by Matty
A:

It should be able to adhere as long as the surface is free of any dust or grime. We do have a large format sample kit that includes swatches of the window cling if you have time to order and test it.

Q:
will this work on side of a car that magnet wont work? looking a cling solution for a couple of vehicles that magnets will not stick to...
Asked a year ago by Eddie K.
A:

Technically it will work but since it is not designed for vehicles and the accompanying wind resistance, we could not guarantee how long it will adhere as this has no adhesive. A more suitable option are the Car Decals which are also repositionable.

Q:
How do you remove the window cling from the surface when it's no longer needed?
Asked a year ago by Kenneth J.
A:

To remove window clings, use a wide glass scraper and lubricate with soapy water to remove the film. Static cling films are very easy to peel off as they have no adhesive.

Q:
I need window clings that are resealable and translucent so that you can see clearly through them even though I would need them in different colors and also mirrored one way do you have such a film
Asked a year ago by Amy G.
A:

Hi Amy,

This is possible. We can have the clings printed and still be translucent. Just make sure when you choose the clear material and select the option to make everything transparent.
